Continuous Integration

Continuous Integration Efforts Get Easier with Drupal 8

The following is a repost of an article I did for Promet Source.

Drupal 8 features unit level testing which will improve Promet's Continuous Integration practices.

At MidCamp (Midwest Drupal camp), I found out a really fascinating thing about Drupal 8: Support for PHPUnit is going to be part of the base distribution. This means a great deal to Solutions Architects and Developers at Promet because we have been striving to integrate automated tests into our build. Perhaps you remember from my talks or previous posts, number four of my 10 Principles of Continuous Integration is "Self-Testing Build". This makes Drupal a much more sought-after platform for shops looking to fully embrace Continuous Integration.

Continuous Integration Delivers Advantages for Business Part II

Now, we provide suggestions for tools that developers can use to help you accomplish the 10 principles outlined in our previous blog. It's very possible that you are already using some of these tools or various software that are similar to them. You might benefit from some of the alternative software and understand the types of tools available. The following list reviews my recommended tools to accomplish CI for ultimate efficiency.

Continuous Integration Delivers Advantages for Business

Software development work impacts business: the code quality, the time spent and the visual work shown, all affects business for our company and our clients. Continuous Integration (CI) helps developers help business by providing processes that fulfill those necessities. To understand how CI provides quality code, efficiency, and shows prowess as a development team, you must understand what CI is and how developers use these practices to make day-to-day software development for your business run smoothly.

Drupal Bootstrapped Build Scripts with Drush scr

Since AllPlayers kicked me out, I've had the chance to do the contractor thing for a little bit and it's been an interesting eye opener. AllPlayers was my first professional Drupal job and a fine example of a SaaS model at work! Best of all it sported what Drupal really could do running both a Drupal 6 install and Drupal 7 install that talked with one another. But that was only the start. Through all the use of Ruby's Rakefiles, Composure, and Jenkins, I found that we did a lot of shell scripting still there. Where I'm at now, Promet Solutions, things are done a little differently. Since the company not only builds websites but supports what other people have built, it's not always easiest to drag out all the big SaaS components that I'm use to. Sometimes, you just have to go a little lower tech.

Selenium: What is it Good For - Series Overview

This is part one of the series of blog posts that explain the talks I've been giving at conventions and user groups recently. It is also based off the slides I used for the talks. The series will talk about Selenium, and how to use the different tools available to you to get automated testing started in your company. The difficulty becomes increasingly harder based on the part that you are on.

It turns out that I am presenting at the Dallas Drupal Days. It's going to be a very simular presentation to what I'm going to do on the 17th, however, don't let that stop you from coming to that one if you come to this one. I'm thinking of ways to spice up the Drupal Users Group talk with something a little more technical. UPDATED: I have slides but no video. The video didn't take due to a resolution change in the middle of the presentation. Will get you a better one at Dallas Drupal Users Group: Automated Testing with Selenium.
